Theater scene

You will not be lacking for things to do if you have a free evening while in Minneapolis. For theater there are touring companies, the world renowned Guthrie Theater, and a host of smaller local venues.

Here is a sample of some of the shows being performed during the conference. All listed are short cab rides.

1. At the Guthrie Theater two shows will be in repertoire – William Shakespeare’s The Winter Tale at the Wurtle Thrust stage and George Bernard Shaw’s Arms and the Man at the McGuire Proscenium.

2. Unfortunately it’s an unusually quiet time at the four venues (State Theater, Orpheum, Pantages & Hennepin Stages) that make up the Hennepin Theatre Trust. Only the Hennepin Stages will be having a show – Girls Only: The Secret Comedy of Women.

3.  At the Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre (started by Dudley Riggs in 1958 and still going strong!) expect some biting political satire from Sarah Palin’s Minnesota: or Hindsight is 2011.

4. Opening March 25 at the Mixed Blood Theatre will be Avenue Q.
